Seven of the Best #3
Although the frequency of blog posts on here have been very light of late rest assured that a lot of work is going on behind the scenes compiling a wide range of statistics to produce some content once the football season in the UK gets under way. With that in mind it’s probably worth a quick whirlwind tour of football on-line.
Up first is an article from SBNation regarding the women’s world cup. An interesting idea regarding co-ed football (1) that will be familiar to anyone with even a passing interest in korfball. On a pre-season theme the Wiltshire Press have a great little piece on Shrivenham’s manager and his rather cavalier approach (2) to this period of the football calendar. I find it quite refreshing, we could all learn a bit his attitude to pre-season friendlies (hint, they’re a waste of all our times).
I’m a big fan of graphical representations of football data and over at Dubious Goals Committee they’ve produced a lovely iconic image (3) of Patrick Viera’s career. Hopefully they’ll be inspired to do more. One for ex-Cardiff City Italian midfielder Mirko Bolesan would be delightful. If you’re into your football art then look no further than this marvellous art exhibition featuring football kit cigarette packets (4), it’s superb.
This week on twitter I was directed to this fantastic blog.It features such diverse topics as poetry about Sam Allardyce and Woody Allen’s thoughts on football. If you like your football blogs well written then (why are you here?) pop along to Football in the Gulag (5).
Anyone who follows my increasingly deranged twitter feed will know I take a keen interest in African football. there’s a new African football blog in town (6) and in its first article it covers the subject of Samuel Eto’o, I especially like the last couple of sentences here! In the past couple of weeks South Sudan became the newest country in the world as they gained their independence. Sport will play a huge part in the country’s development and progression on the world stage. On their independence day they played in a friendly match against Kenyan club side Tusker. There are some absolutely stunning images (7) of the day on the Diamonds Wood blog. I especially like the South Sudan flag coat, I’ve got 100 on order and they should be available to purchase in the Mirko Bolesan shop in time for Christmas.
